Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) was a Spaniard who spent much of his working life in Italy (hence the commonly used version of his name: Vittoria). He wrote much music for Holy Week, and the Canticum Zachariae was intended for use at Lauds on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
